Star Mazda Sebring 2009 - News from Behind the Wheel
Struggling all week with problems with the car we were hoping to improve in qualifying but it didn’t turn out that way. So starting in row 9 and knowing we were faster than where we qualified we had nowhere to go but up in the race!
We got off to a good start passing 3 cars on the first lap and a couple more in the laps to follow, my teammate JC Kester and I had a good battle going but we decided to try and work together and make our way towards the front! Long story short we were passing another car and I managed to get beside him coming out of the turn 8 hairpin. I got cut off of the track which damaged the front splitter pretty severely causing the car to be constantly bottomed out and it was tough in the braking zones.
I also spun out on the next lap and with the combination of the damaged splitter and that another competitor leaked oil on the track we dropped back to last place.
Keeping my head together I managed to race hard and catch back up to the group and started passing car after car slowly making our way back up to 16th.
